Organize With Me : How to Start a Meal Plan / How I Meal Plan & Prep

Hello Lovely Souls!

Welcome back to blog!

Post 3 of Organize With Me is a go-go! This week I am going to attempt to tackle my least favorite of the organization which is : Meal Planning & Prepping.

Okay, when I say least favorite, I don’t really mean that I hate it so to say, but I tend to get a little less than excited when it comes to meal prepping only because honestly, I suck at it.

And when I say suck at it, I mean, I really, really do suck at it. If and when I am wanting to go “all out” for meal planning, I really try to do it right, by getting all healthy meals and options and planning out what I am going to buy and what exactly I am going to eat for which meal and when. Sounds neurotic, right?

But here’s the thing: when I usually want to want to meal prep, I forget to do so and end up hitting McDonald’s or I will meal prep and pack my meals, forget them because I am running late and end up hitting up McDonalds or I don’t have enough money to meal prep and still end up hitting up McDonald’s since a McDouble is only $1.61 and a salad is like $5.00 (what is that, anyway?)

But anyway I that that since I am doing this major organizing plan, I thought I would give it another go. Sooo, here it goes…

One thing that I that know that I try to do when I meal prep is I find Food Basics. What is that, you ask? Lemme break it down. Food Basics are the food staples or item that you can use to for various different recipes. A prime example of this would be chicken. You can use chicken for everything. I can use chicken for chicken tacos, chicken Alfredo, baked chicken, just to name a few.

Once I establish my Food Basics, I am able to build a menu around them. Here is an example :

My Food Basics:

  1. Chicken Breasts
  2. Tortillas
  3. Grapes
  4. Veggies (broccoli, red pepper, and green pepper)
  5. Snack Mix (almonds, chocolate chips, and dried cranberries, so good, I promise)
  6. Peanut Butter
  7. Strawberries

Thus from there, I can create some recipes such as

  1. Chicken Veggie Wraps
  2. Chicken Broccoli Alfredo
  3. Chicken Salad Sandwiches W/ Grapes
  4. Baked Chicken with Broccoli/ Ranch and Snack Mix
  5. Chicken Tacos with Red and Green Pepper toppings

I’m on a roll here…Actually, doing this has made me realize how many dishes you can create from chicken alone…

Anyway, then from there, you can then build your weekly menu from there, here is a sample of a Weekly breakdown of my meal prep for this upcoming week :

So, with this list, I figured out what type of items that would be used as a staple and created and mixed and matched whichever items would fit to make a meal and then plug in the meals of each day.

I usually eat breakfast & lunch at my 1st job of Bass Pro and then Dinner at my 2nd job of McDonald’s (which is free) and the days that I have off from either job is when it’s kind of a free-for-all and I do something at home.

However, when you are doing your meal planning, you can work around your schedule and make changes as needed.

Okay, I gotta admit, that was less painless than I thought…I’m actually surprised. yeah…what was I so stressed about?

Anyway, finally, I got my meal planning out of the way, now on to actually finding the time to prep all of it…a challenge in itself…

Well, there you have it Souls! I hope you enjoyed my meal planning and prepping and I hope that these tips helped you! Let me know what you think! How do you meal prep and plan? What does your menu look like this week! Leave me a reply below!
